Soil is expansive. Foundation was designed in accordance with UBC/CBC Section 1815.
Structurally, this building is actually two buildings joined by a covered walkway. The seismic separation between the two was an interesting challenge and solved by joining the two buildings by structural steel frames designed for the differential movement between the two buildings.
